Door Handles
An extremely intricate and important part of any type of door, whether it’s made from wood, steel or aluminium is the handles on it. Most doors won’t come with any door handles, because it’s almost impossible for the door manufacturers to know the exact final use of the door which they are making. The type of handle which can be found on a door at a factory will be far different to the type of handle which will be placed on the front of a fancy and expensive house, while the physical door itself might be the same.
The type of door handle which people will choose for their front or interior doors will depend of various factors, people who are really crazy about having the fanciest furniture and accessories in their home’s will pay close attention to a simple item such as the door handle. There are different styles for handles, there are curved, straight and round handles on the market. The round handles are more commonly known as door knobs abroad, but in South Africa they are referred to as handles. There are several companies in Johannesburg and Cape Town which import handles from China and then sell them in bulk to hardware stores, there is nothing really wrong with those types of handles, as they can be fitted on wooden doors with ease, the only problem is they might not last long, and after several years they might need to be replaced. Imported handles from countries such as Spain and Italy have a generally better reputation in terms of longevity, since their quality and style is perceived to be superior.
The installation of door handles is generally simple, but not everyone can do it, so sometimes a carpenter will be needed to a proper job. There are many homeowners in South Africa that don’t like to do simple tasks such as replacing or installing a door handle, and this isn’t because they are lazy, but mostly because they don’t want to make a mistake and damage the door or do something that will make using the handle difficult in the future. An important part of most handles is that the door lock is almost always directly linked to the handle, so for security reasons a person needs to ensure that the handle they purchase has a unique key. Since handles are made and sold in bulk, it’s not uncommon to come across two handles which are opened by the same key. Once installed door handles shouldn’t generally give any issues, but if a person is purchasing a new door and a handle for it, then it always makes sense to not only go for a high quality handle but also one that has some style to it, especially if it will be used for the front door or gate of a house or apartment.
